Defiant climate advocates from Germany call for EU resolve as Trump returns to office
The beginning of reelected U.S. president Donald Trump’s second term in office has prompted calls from German government representatives, researchers and civil society actors to strengthen European efforts to uphold global efforts to cooperate on climate action. The new U.S. administration will likely pose a major challenge to international emissions reduction efforts and diplomacy - but many are convinced that even the climate-sceptic Trump will not be able to stymie the global trend towards green and sustainable technologies. Germany’s economy minister said the country as well as Europe as a whole should not allow themselves to be blackmailed by the U.S. president.
